Live Nation Urban is honoring Black History Month with a multi-event series called "Afro-Renaissance." Hitting six cities, it started last week with a jam session in L.A.
"Afro-Renaissance" was created to amplify Black voices, create space for Black creativity and spotlight resources and industry executives for those looking to grow professionally and learn more about the entertainment business. Partnering with local Black-owned businesses and organizations such as
Uncle Nearest,
Broccoli City and
Wtmove.app, the events will also act as a recruiting platform for HBCU students from
Clark Atlanta University and
Howard University.

2/14, 21, 28: Meet the Execs on Instagram Live @livenationurban
Brandon Pankey, VP of business development at Live Nation Urban, hosts a series of conversations with Black executives like
Victoria Eady Butler and
Stacy Muhammad.
2/10: Black Tour Directory mixer, Washington, D.C., Soundcheck
This mixer will feature Black creatives who specialize in live-event production and boast a live performance by Black-owned music collective
Zoney Sound.
2/17: Black Love Mixtape, Chicago, House of Blues Foundation Room
This poetry mixer, highlighting love of self, romantic love and love of community, will present poetry by
Justus Pugh,
Soulah and
Matt Muse with a special DJ set from
Sky Jetta.
2/23: Cocktails and Convos–Studio to Stage, Los Angeles, Live Nation LA
Black songwriters discuss their journey from songwriting to setting the stage as performers with a special performance by
Farrah Fawx.
2/23: Black Joy Comedy Show, Atlanta, Live Nation Atlanta
A night of comedy and drinks with comedians
DJ Swole,
Daniel Dellanno,
Plug Chapman and
Frankie Benz.
2/24: Diaspora: A Celebration of Black Dance Music, New York, Live Nation NY
This happy hour mixer will highlight Black dance music.
DJ No Brakes will spin Jersey club, New Orleans bounce, Afrobeats and other dance genres. Jersey club artist
Cookiee Kawaii will also perform.
2/24: The Houston Mixtape, Houston, House of Blues Houston
A celebration of hip-hop's 50th birthday and Houston’s impact on hip-hop music and culture with Houston hip-hop legends and emerging artists.
