Jo Charrington, right, joins Rebecca Allen as Co-President of EMI Records.
Capitol U.K.’s Jo Charrington has been named Co-President of EMI Records alongside Rebecca Allen, uniting EMI and Capitol under the same label group.
Capitol Records U.K.’s roster and team will now operate as a division of the wider EMI family, alongside Motown U.K., with the two set to share resources. Charrington has moved over following the exit of her fellow Capitol Co-President, Nick Raphael, earlier this year.
Calling it “a game changing moment for EMI,” Universal Music U.K. Chairman & CEO David Joseph said, “Becky and Jo make an exceptional team with a united vision for what a modern record label should be. Becky’s leadership together with Jo’s unrivalled A&R track record sets up what promises to be an exciting new era for EMI and their artists.”
Charrington spent nine years at Capitol, during which time she played a pivotal role in the careers of Sam Smith, Aitch, Mae Muller and Zoe Wees. Her career in A&R has seen her sign and/or A&R 30 platinum or multi-platinum albums while artists.
"Jo is someone who I have always admired and respected, both as a friend and as an outstanding executive,” Allen said. “We’ve built a fantastic relationship over the years and we will be running a label that is both innovative and forward thinking with our artists and their music always at the heart."
