A host of events in the U.K. have been canceled in the wake of the Queen’s death, including BBC fest Live at Leeds and Proms nights at the Royal Albert Hall.
There is no official obligation from Government to cancel events during the national mourning period, which runs until the day of the Queen’s funeral on 9/19. Still, some have been called off as a mark of respect.
Radio 2’s Live in Leeds, which was set to take place on 9/17-18, has been canceled. Robbie Williams, George Ezra and Kaiser Chiefs were among acts set to perform.
The two final Proms performances at Royal Albert Hall last week were cancelled as a mark of respect; a new date for the Mercury Music Prize ceremony has yet to be announced.
In the sporting world, this weekend’s Premier League match, and this evening’s game, have been postponed. Ongoing rail and postal strike action has also been suspended until after the mourning period.
