Vince Gill surprised Chris Young during his Grand Ole Opry performance with an invitation to become an official Opry member. The invite came just prior to Young’s performance of their duet “Sober Saturday Night.”
“I’ll make you a deal,” Gill said. “I’ll forgive the session fees if you’ll be the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry.”
Young answered Gill, saying, “You’re getting triple scale at this point.”
The formal induction will take place 10/17, a few days ahead of the release of his seventh album, Losing Sleep (RCA Nashville).
Earlier in the evening, BMI songwriters Young, Gill, Brad and Brett Warren celebrated the success of “Sober Saturday Night.” Sober was a word no one could pronounce by night’s end.
