Taylor Swift,
Elton John and
Beyonce received
Golden Globe nominations this morning for their songs in films from the last year. What might this portend come
Oscar time?
The field for Best Original Song—Motion Picture contains three superstars, a
Disney franchise and a song co-written by an actress who is just an Oscar shy of an EGOT.
Swift is up for “Beautiful Ghosts” from
Cats, a song she co-wrote with the show’s creator
Andrew Lloyd Webber. Elton and
Bernie Taupin are nominated for their new contribution to the biopic
Rocketman, “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again.”
Frozen II, with music by
Bobby Lopez, who is already an EGOT, and
Kristen Anderson Lopez, gets into the action with “Into the Unknown,” which
Idina Menzel sings in the film and
Panic! At the Disco performs over the end credits.
Beyonce’s “Spirit,” written and produced by the singer with
Ilya Salmanzadeh and
Labrinth for
The Lion King, is also contending along with “Stand Up” from
Harriet by
Grammy,
Tony and
Emmy winner
Cynthia Erivo.
In four of the last five ceremonies, the winner of the Globe has gone on to win the Oscar, the most recent being
Lady Gaga and
Mark Ronson for “Shallow” from
A Star is Born.
The 77th Golden Globe Awards will be handed out on 1/5.
