GAMBINO, KENDRICK ANTHEMS RETURN TO THE CHARTS

Anthems from Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar have returned to the front of the Spotify U.S. chart following a week of protests and unrest in America.

Gamibino's "This Is America" (RCA/Wolf+Rothstein) soared to #2 on Blackout Tuesday. The 2019 Grammy winner for Record and Song of the Year is embedded among a new generation as a raw portrayal of being black in America, emphasized by its graphic and artistic video.

Lamar's "Alright" (TDE/Interscope) re-entered at #11 on the daily chart. The anthem has become synonymous with the Black Lives Matter campaign since it debuted in 2015.

Other black music anthems revived on the Spotify chart include James Brown's "Say It Loud – I'm Black and I'm Proud" (#65) and 2Pac's "Keep Ya Head Up" (#86).

Over at Apple Music, the platform didn't budge on pausing the show, as streaming was halted to honor Black culture. Upon opening the app, users were given a message confirming Apple's support of black voices, while the only listening option was a streaming radio station to "Listen Together" to iconic Black anthems.
