UPDATE: It appears as though Ye's
Donda has moved again, with
iTunes' pre-order now showing 9/5 (week of 9/3) as the release date. The goalposts continue to be shifted as West hosts a third album event on Thursday evening, this time at Chicago's Soldier Field.
It’s a dramatic week on the new-release front, with
Capitol’s
Halsey poised for a big moment.
The sound and fury surrounding
Drake and
Kanye West, meanwhile, continues to intensify; West stirred the pot on 8/23 by posting the home address of his nemesis on
Instagram, setting off a cascade of social-media commentary. Is the rumor of an imminent release from
OVO/Republic’s Drake to blame? With West's as-yet-undelivered
Donda (
G.O.O.D./Def Jam) now allegedly slated for 8/27, will Champagne Papi drop his album the same day, frustrating ’Ye’s hopes for a #1 bow?
One thing’s for certain: Halsey WILL release the
Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross-produced
If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power on Friday. Will one or both of the feuding rappers spoil her shot at #1? Might their beef spur an ongoing game of release-date roulette? Will Kanye decide to re-record
Donda in a suite at the
Waldorf Astoria? Stay tuned.
