Primary Wave Music has acquired a stake in the income stream of lyricist
Gerry Goffin’s songs, among them the smashes he wrote with wife
Carole King in the 1960s.
Beyond such hits as “Take Good Care of My Baby,” “The Loco-Motion” and “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” the deal includes several songs Goffin wrote with other songwriters, including “Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You’re Going To).”
Goffin also co-wrote “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love for You” and “Saving All My Love for You.” He was inducted into the
Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and the
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
“The songs Gerry Goffin penned over the course of his incredible career have proven to be ageless,” said
Larry Mestel, CEO & Founder of Primary Wave Music. “We are thrilled to have these iconic songs on our roster and honored to welcome Gerry to the family of Primary Wave Music artists.”
Goffin and King married in 1959. In 1960, they were signed to
Aldon Music,
where they wrote hits for
The Shirelles,
Bobby Vee,
Steve Lawrence,
The Drifters and others. In the 1970s, Goffin collaborated with
Russ Titelman,
Barry Goldberg and
Michael Masser. Goffin died in June 2014 at the age of 75.
