Wanna be startin’ somethin’? How about a run on
Broadway? Previews have begun for
MJ The Musical at Broadway’s
Neil Simon Theatre, with opening night scheduled for 2/1. Delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic,
MJ was set to open in July 2020 and is finally lifting the curtain a year and a half later.
Written by
two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and directed and choreographed by
Christopher Wheeldon, the show centers on the creation of Jackson’s 1992
Dangerous World Tour. We're told the first preview earned multiple standing ovations.
Myles Frost,
who appeared in the 2019 film
All In and performed songs for the Netflix comedy series
Family Reunion, is making his Broadway debut as
Michael Jackson in the musical, produced by
Lia Vollack,
John Branca and
John McClain.
Jason Michael Webb and
David Holcenberg handled the music.
Marty Bandier,
Doug Morris and
Sony Music are among those who've invested in the production.
