BTS broke a global event cinema record this weekend as
BTS Permission to Dance on Stage–Seoul: Live Viewing grossed $32.6m.
On 3/12
HYBE and
Trafalgar Releasing presented the first live worldwide cinema broadcast of a concert from South Korea, in 3,711 cinemas in 75 regions. In North America, the production grossed $6.84m from 803 theaters. Tickets were selling for up to $35.
“For a one-day gross to come in at this level, particularly the global number, is mind-boggling and speaks to the power of a one-chance-only event to drive moviegoers to the cinema,”
Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst with
Comscore,
told Variety.
The previous global event cinema record was also held by BTS. That was for HYBE and Trafalgar’s
Bring the Soul: The Movie, which grossed approximately $24.3m over a two-week run in 2019.
