Republic founders
Monte Lipman and
Avery Lipman have upped
Glenn Mendlinger to EVP of Republic Records and President of
IMPERIAL Music.
Mendlinger has led the indie-distribution upstart during the last two years as it emerged as a market leader; in 2021, IMPERIAL earned 7m+ in album units and crossed 10b global streams.
Among its recent successes,
Bo Burnham's
INSIDE (The Songs) captured the zeitgeist as a film/album, leading to a six-week run in the Top 10 and winning a
Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media ("All Eyes on Me"). The album is now certified gold by the
RIAA.
This year IMPERIAL posted a #1 bow with
Stray Kids'
ODDINARY, which claims the year's biggest pure-sales week. Additionally, fellow K-pop giants
TWICE and
TOMORROW X TOGETHER posted Top 10 debuts, as did Chicago hip-hop star
G Herbo.
Mendlinger is also part of the executive leadership team at Republic and involved with
The Chemical Brothers, whom he brought to Republic when he came aboard, and
Coachella headliners
Swedish House Mafia. He will continue to be based in New York.
Said Monte, “In a very short period of time, IMPERIAL has achieved historic milestones under Glenn’s leadership. His tenacity and sense of urgency have yielded unprecedented results, capturing the imagination of the independent music community.”
Mendlinger said, “I want to thank Monte and Avery for their vision in creating IMPERIAL, for their continued support and leadership and for Chumbawamba—I'm a huge fan.”
