Leimert Park's fourth annual
Juneteenth Festival is returning to South L.A. on Saturday, 6/18, 12pm-9pm, at
Leimert Park Village.
Amazon Music's
Rotation, "a new home for hip-hop and R&B," collaborated with event producer
Still Rising to curate the lineup; recently announced
Kamasi Washington and
Terrace Martin will headline the main, "Live on Leimert" stage, which also features performances by
Buddy,
Masego and
Smino. The collaboration is the latest effort of “Credit the Culture,” a celebration of
Black Music Month from Rotation + Amazon Music.
“Leimert Park has been the centerpiece of Black culture in Los Angeles for many decades. We are honored to be part of this year’s Juneteenth festival highlighting the various creatives and Black-owned businesses that keep this community thriving,” said
Tim Hinshaw, Head of Hip-Hop and R&B for Amazon Music.
Other sponsors of the fest include
Def Jam,
Motown,
SESAC and
LACMA.
Robert Leonard began the tradition of observing Juneteenth in Leimert Park Village. Now a national holiday, it has been acknowledged in varying ways there in the years since. In 2018, a few dedicated folks came together to put on the first Leimert Park Juneteenth Festival. More info on the event can be found
