Purists be warned: Indie-rock mainstay
Alex G has jumped to the majors, inking with
RCA after releasing his past four albums on
Domino.
The 30-year-old musician, whose full name is
Alexander Giannascoli, has been a fixture on the DIY scene since he began self-issuing his music on
Bandcamp in 2010. He signed with Domino in 2015 and cracked the Alternative top 20 with his most recent full-length for the label, 2022's
God Save the Animals. Collaborations with
Frank Ocean,
Japanese Breakfast and
Lil Yachty haven't hurt either.
Amid offers from other majors and indies alike, Alex G's RCA signing was driven by the enthusiasm of SVP of A&R
Dan Chertoff and COO
John Fleckenstein, who are enjoying a hot streak with young breakouts such as
Tate McRae,
Lizzy McAlpine and
Tyler Childers.
We're told Nipper will be given a locally sourced organic treat in commemoration of this indie triumph.
Alex G is managed by
Tyler Richman at
weekday mgmt, and booked in North and South America by
Wasserman Music's
Greg Horbal.
Primary Talent International's
Matt Pickering-Copley is overseeing bookings for the rest of the world.
Look for the artist onstage at
Governors Ball in New York in June and four West Coast stadium shows opening for RCA labelmates
Foo Fighters in August. Also, look for us as we try to talk our way into the VIP section with last year's wristband.
