Moments after
Beyoncé's
Verizon commercial debuted Sunday (2/11) during
Super Bowl LVIII, the
Parkwood Entertainment/
Columbia superstar posted a video teaser to
Instagram and dropped two new songs, "Texas Hold 'Em" and "16 Carriages," sending the mediasphere into an instant tizzy of anticipation for a new set,
act ii, due 3/29 (per the aforementioned spot).
Fan response was almost immediate: "16 Carriages" went to #1 at iTunes and sat at #13 at Apple Music early Monday morning; "Texas Hold 'Em" was#2 at iTunes and #10 at Apple.
The clip, which looks to be set in the 1970s (judging by the old taxi rolling down a desolate highway), finds a wild cast of characters staring at a billboard that reads "Texas Hold 'Em." Beyoncé is then heard singing, "This ain't Texas/ Ain't no hold 'em/ Lay our cards down, down down" in what sounds like a nod to
Kenny Rogers. The spot ends with "act ii" and that 3/29 date.
Rumblings of the next Beyoncé album have been circulating for months as fans await the second act of her
RENAISSANCE trilogy. Is this what the buzzing
BeyHive has been waiting for? Meanwhile, all this Vegas action has some asking if a Bey
Sphere residency is in motion. Stay tuned. In other news, we're now fully sick from all the cheese dip we just ate.
