USHER is developing and serving as executive producer for a
Universal Content Productions drama series based on his catalog (UCP is a division of
Universal Studio Group). Set in Atlanta, the as-yet-untitled project will explore "music, style, sex, romance and secrets."
The deal was made with attorney
Kenny Mieselas, who is also an executive producer.
“My 30-year catalog has resonated with so many people no matter where they were in their lives,” USHER said in a statement. “I’m happy to be working with UCP to bring the music to life. I hope the series resonates with you the way my music continues to.”
USHER's self-titled debut album arrived in 1994. Since then, he's sold more than 80m albums worldwide. His latest,
COMING HOME (
mega/
gamma.), arrived on 2/9, two days before he took the field for the
Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show. His electric performance, which included special guests
Alicia Keys,
Ludacris,
Jermaine Dupri,
H.E.R. and
Lil Jon, shot his 2004 single "Yeah!" to #2 on Apple Music and #3 at
iTunes. The Keys-assisted "My Boo" hit #9 on iTunes. "U Got It Bad" landed at #6.
USHER is poised for a busy year. Following his Super Bowl performance, he added 10 dates to his upcoming
Past Present Future Tour. Produced by
Live Nation, the now-51-date tour will start 8/16 in Atlanta and make stops in Seattle, Las Vegas and Vancouver, among other locales, before concluding at Houston's
Toyota Center on 11/27.
As for us, we're tired just typing that.
