The
Songwriters Hall of Fame has announced the 2025 class of inductees:
Parliament-Funkadelic leader
George Clinton,
Ashley Gorley,
Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins,
The Beach Boys'
Mike Love,
Tony Macaulay and
The Doobie Brothers'
Tom Johnston,
Michael McDonald and
Patrick Simmons. The induction ceremony will take place 6/12 at the
Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York.
Twenty-six songwriters or songwriting teams were hoping for induction this year, but just six were elected; three from 13 nominees in the performing songwriters category and three from 13 nominees in the songwriters category.
A songwriter is eligible for induction 20 years after their first significant commercial release of a song. The SHOF will announce the recipients of its two honorary awards—the
Johnny Mercer Award and the
Hal David Starlight Award—at a later date.
Notably, this year's class is the first to not to include any women, as
Franne Golde,
Sheryl Crow,
Janet Jackson and
Alanis Morissette were nominated but didn't make the cut.
We're just hoping our invitation to this year's gala doesn't get "lost" in the mail
again. Read more about the inductees
