Prior to Friday’s release of expanded editions of
Prince’s
Sign O’ the Times, his celebrated 1987 New Year’s Eve benefit concert will be streamed on
YouTube.
Beginning at 8pm ET Thursday, the Prince Estate,
Warner Records and YouTube will premiere a vault recording of the concert, which took place at
Paisley Park on 12/31/87 to support the
Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless. It was Prince’s final performance of the
Sign O’ the Times tour and his only onstage collaboration with
Miles Davis.
Ahead of the premiere,
Maya Rudolph will host a conversation with
Susannah Melvoin,
Dr. Fink,
Eric Leeds and
Levi Seacer Jr. It begins at 7pm. An afterparty DJ set will follow the concert.
In the months leading up to the release of the album, Warner has been posting individual tracks such as "I Need a Man," "Cosmic Day" and "Witness 4 the Prosecution."
