Invitations were sent out on Monday for an event by
Apple on 3/25, where it will presumably announce its new streaming video platform and a premium news service.
The Cupertino powerhouse has been investing in its new original video content service in hopes of competing with
Netflix,
Hulu and
Amazon Prime Video. Apple has struck deals with a variety of Hollywood talent including
Oprah Winfrey,
J.J. Abrams,
Jennifer Aniston and
Reese Witherspoon among others.
In addition to original content, Apple's service will offer access to third-party subscriptions, which will be sold as a la carte add-ons. According to Variety, some of the partners expected to participate include
CBS,
Viacom and
HBO.
While there is no information regarding where
Apple Music fits into the new video platform, a bundle appears likely.
Spotify's success with Hulu as a partner, on the heels of
Samsung and
Verizon deals with both music-streaming giants, points to music bundles gaining strength as a welcome accessory for consumers.
Apple's event will take place in the
Steve Jobs Theatre on the Cupertino campus.
