Lady Gaga is ready to unleash
MAYHEM on the world, in the form of a new
Interscope album bearing that name.
In typically Gagaesque fashion, she made the announcement via giant billboards around Las Vegas and her hometown of New York City featuring a black-and-white photo of the Mother Monster and bright red lettering revealing the title and 3/7 release date.
Preceded by lead single “Disease,” the album includes the
Bruno Mars duet “Die With a Smile,” which reached 1 billion streams on
Spotify faster than any other song. A new single is expected to be unveiled during the
Grammys on 2/2.
The 14-track
MAYHEM was executive-produced by Gaga,
Michael Polansky and
Andrew Watt, with Gaga, Watt,
Cirkut and
Gesaffelstein providing production.
“The album started as me facing my fear of returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved,” said the 13-time Grammy winner, likening the set's creation to “reassembling a shattered mirror," elaborating, "Even if you can’t put the pieces back together perfectly, you can create something beautiful and whole in its own new way.”
HITS, of course, has never been described as "beautiful" in
any way.
Gaga will perform at
Intuit Dome as part of the massive
FireAid benefit taking place on 1/30. She’ll headline
Coachella on 4/11 and 4/18.
