It's a grim moment in the U.S. as the right-wing Supreme Court majority is poised, according to a leaked draft opinion, to overturn
Roe v. Wade and related ruling
Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
The
draft opinion, penned by Justice
Samuel Alito and endorsed by four other archconservatives on the court, not only explicitly argues for the dismantling of Roe and Casey but provides ominous signs that the rights of other Americans—particularly LGBTQ+ people—are very much in the crosshairs. (There is also much
sturm und drang about the leak itself.)
The issue will undoubtedly become the focus of this fall's midterm elections. Will activists be able to galvanize a wave to halt the nation's march to the far right?
