We’ll have plenty more label-related analysis for you once these cappuccinos with amphetamine floaters kick in. For now, we feel duty-bound to observe that three labels in particular have much to celebrate thanks to deep benches that gave them not only many noms but big real estate in diverse categories.
Interscope’s
Billie Eilish alone, who’s nominated in all major categories, has six nods and her producer/collaborator brother,
FINNEAS, nabbed five. House
Janick’s
Lady Gaga and
Lana Del Rey also scored in the top tiers (as did
Swae as a feature) and
J. Cole (four rap nods),
DaBaby (two rap nods),
Dreamville (also two),
Ella Mai (R&B Album),
Mustard and
The 1975 (Rock Song) are all represented in genres.
Ron Perry’s
Columbia has a top-tier/Pop/Rap unicorn in sextuple nominee
Lil Nas X, who’s joined in Best New Artist by labelmate
Rosalía (also a contender in the Latin Alternative category) and in Album of the Year by Alternative heroes
Vampire Weekend (who are also up for Rock Song and Alternative Album).
Beyoncé is all over the Pop categories, while Trad Pop features
John Legend and another legend,
Barbra Streisand.
Tyler, The Creator is in the running for Rap Album.
Republic’s
Ariana Grande led the House of
Lipman’s champions with five noms, including ROTY, AOTY and love across the Pop categories.
Taylor Swift’s in the running for SOTY and multiple Pop prizes, while
Post Malone got a Record nom and is represented in Pop. The
Jonas Brothers are also acknowledged in Pop.
Plenty of other labels have much to celebrate, and we’ll get into that, as noted above, when the drugs start working.
