Beyoncé,
Billie Eilish and
Van Morrison received
Academy Award noms this morning in the Best Original Song category.
Lin-Manuel Miranda has the opportunity to EGOT.
Eilish and
FINNEAS are looking for a hat trick with their
James Bond theme, “No Time to Die,” which has already won a
Grammy and a
Golden Globe.
Beyoncé, whose awards could fill a hangar, received her first Oscar nomination, for “Be Alive” from
King Richard, the biopic on the father of
Venus and
Serena Williams. Morrison, too, is a first-time nominee, for “Down to Joy” from
Belfast.
On the other end of the spectrum is
Diane Warren, who now has 13 noms without a win. Her “Somehow You Do” from
Four Good Days marks the fifth straight year in which she is nominated in the category.
If EGOT contender Miranda wins for “Dos Oruguitas” from
Disney’s
Encanto, he will add an Oscar to his trophy case to go along with his two
Emmys, three
Grammys and three
Tonys.
The Best Original Score nominees are
Nicholas Britell (
Don’t Look Up);
Hans Zimmer (
Dune);
Germaine Franco (
Encanto);
Alberto Iglesias (
Parallel Mothers); and
Jonny Greenwood (
The Power of the Dog).
Questlove’s
Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) is among the Best Documentary nominees.
Most notable among the noms was
Jane Campion's becoming the first woman to receive a second nomination for her directorial work. Her superb entry
The Power of the Dog led all films with 12 nominations.
Here’s
the full list.
The 2022 Academy Awards ceremony will take place 3/27 at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre and will be broadcast live on ABC.
