The rights to the musical stylings of
Lucky Wilbury—the artist otherwise known as
Bob Dylan—have been acquired by
Primary Wave Music. The deal covers Lucky’s share of
The Traveling Wilburys’ recorded-music and neighboring-rights royalties for the two LPs released by rock’s most casual supergroup, as well as the 2007 collected-works boxed set.
Since its release in 1988,
Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 has been certified triple platinum. Wilburys Lucky,
Nelson (
George Harrison),
Otis (
Jeff Lynne) and
Charlie T. Jr. (
Tom Petty) dedicated the equally beloved 1990 follow-up,
Traveling Wilburys Vol. 3, to
Lefty Wilbury, aka
Roy Orbison, who’d died two months after the release of
Vol. 1. These records represent the most collegial chapter of Dylan’s six-decade career.
“To acquire even a small portion of Bob Dylan’s work is exciting, to say the least,” said PW VP Business & Legal Affairs
Samantha Rhulen. “We’re honored to add this bit of history to our growing music catalog.”
It’s comforting to know that “Tweeter and the Monkey Man” will be handled with care from this day forward.
