GRAMMY OPENER: WE LOVE IT

To open the 67th Grammy Awards, host Trevor Noah spoke of the horrific L.A. wildfires and the incalculable damage they did. He also pointed to "the spirit of the city," elaborating, "Neighbors who had never spoken before are helping each other. Community centers are overflowing with donations.” And he named some of the countless artists who either call this city home or have been inspired by it: Billie Eilish and FINNEAS, Chappell Roan, Stevie Wonder, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg and indie-rockers Dawes, who, said Noah, "have L.A. in their DNA."

Dawes brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith lost their homes, their music studios and most of their instruments in the Eaton fire. To show their love for the city and to signal that this year’s Grammys were not business as usual, the brothers were joined by Sheryl Crow, Brittany Howard, St. Vincent, Brad Paisley and John Legend for a rousing version of Randy Newman’s civic anthem, “I Love L.A.”

Less than 24 hours after that moving performance, Dawes has released a single version of “I Love L.A.,” that’s now available via all streamers. All proceeds will benefit The Recording Academy and MusiCares’ Los Angeles Fire Relief Effort To Support Music Professionals.
